The Top Stories of 2020

For SIG SAUER, 2020 was quite a year. Despite the unpredictability of the world around us, we are extremely proud that we were able to bring new, innovative products to our customers, be awarded several new U.S. defense contracts, and reach new milestones with our U.S. Military partners. Here’s a collection of our best highlights and stories from 2020.

TANGO6T Riflescope Wins Third Major Contract. Selected by U.S. Department of Defense for Direct View Optic (DVO)

In March it was announced the TANGO6T has been selected by the U.S. Department of Defense for the Direct View Optic (DVO) in response to a solicitation to enhance squad performance with a variable powered riflescope.  Unlike older generation non-magnified or fixed-magnification optics, the TANGO6T is a 1-6X variable-magnification riflescope that enables the soldier to engage both close quarter targets and targets at extended ranges.

This award from the U.S. DoD is the third award for the SIG SAUER TANGO6T; previously selections for the TANGO6T include the Squad Designated Marksman Rifle (SDMR) and the USSOCOM Squad-Variable Powered Scope (S-VPS).  The TANGO6T riflescope is currently in use with the U.S. Army Squad Designated Marksman and U.S. Military Special Forces.

“After rigorous and stringent testing, where the best of the industry competed, we are proud to confirm the SIG SAUER TANGO6T riflescope has been selected by the U.S. Army as the Direct View Optic,” began Ron Cohen, President and CEO, SIG SAUER, Inc.  “This is a three-peat for the TANGO6T as the riflescope continues to prove it will withstand the rigors of U.S. military testing making it the choice for use with our soldiers.  The further proliferation of the riflescope into the U.S. Military’s M4A1 operating system is an exciting achievement for SIG SAUER Electro-Optics and further proof that the TANGO6T is the direction of the future.”

Custom Works FCU and P320 Studio. Countless Options. Endless Possibilities

The SIG SAUER Custom Works P320 Fire Control Unit (FCU)  began shipping in November and arriving at select SIG SAUER Master and Elite Dealers.  The standalone P320 Fire Control Unit (FCU) enables an entirely new level of customization and personalization in the world of firearms; in addition consumers now have the ability to build a completely custom P320 using the P320 Studio.

“The P320 pistol is renowned for both its unprecedented modularity and unmatched capability to become the pistol of choice amongst firearms enthusiasts and all branches of the U.S. Military,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, SIG SAUER, Inc.  “The soul of the P320, and the driving force behind its modularity, is the patented, serialized fire control unit that gives the consumer the ability to build their dream pistol from the ground up.”

The SIG SAUER P320 Custom Works Fire Control Unit (FCU) is a patented, serialized fire control unit (only available at select retail stores) that features a titanium nitride coating and lightened skeletonized trigger with an exclusive FCU Serial Number (FCU ###), and is compatible with 9mm, 357 SIG and 40 S&W calibers.

“In conjunction with the availability of the P320 FCU in retail stores, we are also launching the P320 Studio online at sigsauer.com.  This level of customization is an industry first and the virtual experience offers the consumer countless options and endless possibilities to build and view their custom P320,” continued Taylor.  “We are planning to take the customization element of this one step further, because we recognize that the consumer wants what they want, and sometimes that’s something SIG doesn’t offer.  By working hand-in-hand with premium after-market component manufacturers, FCU customers can quite literally build their dream P320 however they want.”

The P320 Studio gives the consumer a unique online experience to build a P320 pistol from the ground up by choosing a grip module, slide, barrel, guides and springs, optics, or complete CAL-X Kits with the virtual P320 configurator.  All parts available within the P320 Studio are available for purchase direct from sigsauer.com.

“It’s quite fitting that for the pistol known for its modularity, SIG has found yet another way to introduce an entirely new level of modularity and personal customization to the P320,” concluded Taylor.

“The SIG SAUER Next Generation Squad Weapons system is the only submission entirely designed, engineered and manufactured by a single American company. We are proud to deliver this comprehensive solution to the U.S. Army, with new capabilities to enhance mission effectiveness for our soldiers on the battlefield,” began Ron Cohen, President & CEO SIG SAUER, Inc. “Our ammunition, machine gun, rifle, and suppressors far surpass the performance of the legacy weapons system in range and lethality, offer exponentially better maneuverability, and are significantly lighter in weight.”

designed to enhance mission effectiveness, this high-pressure, compact round combines a significant reduction in weight, with the ability to handle higher pressures resulting in increased velocity and greater penetration. Additionally, based on the cartridge design and the traditional manufacturing processes, the growth potential of the SIG 6.8mm ammunition is exponential.

SIG SAUER Lightweight Machine Gun (NGSW-AR): with an emphasis on significant reductions in soldier load and enhanced combat performance, SIG SAUER designed the NGSW-AR to be 40% lighter than current systems, and dramatically reduce felt recoil while maintaining traditional belt-fed operation to increase downrange capability. The MG 6.8mm machine gun features ambidextrous AR-style ergonomics, quick detach magazines, increased M1913 rail space, quick detach suppressor, and vastly improves upon the operation and function of the legacy M249.

SIG SAUER Rifle (NGSW-R): a lightweight rifle built on the foundation of the SIG SAUER weapons in service with the premier fighting forces across the globe combined with the added firepower of the 6.8mm round. Features include a fully collapsible and folding stock, rear and side charging handle, free-floating reinforced M-LOK™ handguard, fully ambidextrous controls, and quick-detach suppressor.

SIG SAUER Next Generation Suppressors: designed to reduce harmful backflow and signature that feature low flash with a quick detach design.

“I am very proud that every component of the SIG SAUER Next Generation Squad Weapons system was manufactured at our SIG SAUER facilities in New Hampshire and Arkansas and is entirely American made. Our engineers have worked in concert to optimize the system, ensuring that every component is synchronized, and our soldiers are equipped for the demands of the modern battlefield,” added Cohen. “Additionally, I would be remiss if I did not recognize the hard work and dedication of the entire team who worked tirelessly in these unprecedented times, in the face of a pandemic, to deliver the SIG SAUER NGSW system to the U.S. Army.”

The MOD-X9 is the first release of SIG SAUER’s modular line of pistol suppressors made of titanium baffles for the ultimate in lightweight strength and performance that allows the user to personalize their suppressor for overall length, weight, and sound.

“SIG SAUER was the first to innovate and design the first truly modular pistol with the P320, and we’re now excited to bring new, innovative modularity to our line of suppressors with the MOD-X series of suppressors,” began Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales, SIG SAUER, Inc.  “The MOD-X9 is designed for 9mm pistols and rifles, is easily configurable allowing the user to choose the amount of baffles to optimize sound, length, and weight.”
